This One World Futbol Is Worth Kicking Around

Here’s something awesome for anyone that’s feeling homesick for the World Cup. I think this product is pretty rad. According to many happy children all over the world, the One World Futbol “never needs inflating, requires no pump or needle, and will never go flat or lose bounce, even if punctured.” How cool is that?
These ultra-durable, all-terrain soccer balls were invented by Tim Jahnigen after he saw a news clip of children playing soccer in Darfur refugee camp. The children were using a ball made of trash tied up with twine, on a field that was really just a patch of rocks and dirt. He imagined these kids might have once had a real soccer ball, but maybe it was worn out or punctured or they didn’t have a needle to re-inflate it. So he set out to design a new ball — one that could be played with in a harsh setting and never wear out. A toy that could bring playtime to children all over the world in all sorts of circumstances

The more I learn about the One World Futbol, the more I like it. For example, they’re made using technology that doesn’t require stitching. Why does this matter? Well, many traditional soccer balls are still stitched by hand — often by children working in awful conditions. I also love that these balls are really built for all sorts of terrain. Concrete, dirt, blacktop, rocky patches. And they work just as well on grass playing fields. In fact, these balls are regulation size and meet all official standards for size and weight.
The coolest part? One World has a Buy One Give One policy. For every ball you buy, the One World Futbol Project will give an identical ball to a child in need or a young person in a refugee camp or poverty-stricken community.
Three cheers for smart design and socially minded companies!
